We teamed up in 2012 as the end of the Maya calendar approached, and humanity was aware of a transfomation taking place. We felt called to actively participate in this process, foremost through our own personal transformations. We learned to trust the wisdom of our hearts to guide us. Through our experiences, we created a path upon which others could follow. We invited people to embark on their own journeys of personal transformation. Together, we could celebrate our humanity and overcome our obstacles. Thus, our business, Celebrate Myself, was born.
We feel it is important to begin our work in New Mexico. It is a valuable place to journey. Veronica came here from Mexico City to do her healing work and raise her son. Rasa grew up walking over rocks and shards of glass along barren ditches, smelling adobe mud, and admiring the pink mountains at sunset. The desert is a challenging place to live, yet there is wisdom here.
From 1880 until 1940 people flocked to New Mexico to heal during the tuberculosis epidemics. Resting in the warm, dry climate, breathing fresh air, and eating nutritious foods cured people before antibiotics existed. People came to heal and stayed to do art under the clear, blue skies. New Mexico is also known for its scientific innovation and environmental sustainability. Sustainability, as defined by the Brundtland Commission, is a way of life that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” It is the capacity to endure. Sustainability encompasses the three pillars of environmental health, economic vitality and social equity.1 The richness of culture, natural beauty, tradition and innovation in New Mexico inspire a sense of reverence for a higher intelligence. People who are stressed, ill, suffer with addiction, depression, fatigue or a sense of isolation can connect to something meaningful here.
We wish to reconnect people with their beauty and sense of purpose. We are related with all of life and have a responsibility to care for it. We share our tools for healing, understanding and celebrating life. We weave ancestral wisdom with modern science in naturopathic medicine and shamanism to address some of the most difficult diseases of our times. We are creating a culture that supports self-care. We are bringing back balance.
In 2014, Celebrate Myself is offering programs to take people on journeys of personal transformation. We hold sacred space where we share our knowledge and tools for people to face their difficulties and find their answers. As each group graduates from their experience, their lives contribute to the world in deeply meaningful ways. Only a few, courageous people will be selected for these journeys.
We want to have a large impact in bringing balance back to a world run by greed, ignorance, and fear. The abuse must stop, especially against women and the environment. The oppressed need a voice, the secrets need to be told, and sacredness needs to be re-established. Celebrate Myself will conduct ceremony for seasonal changes and rites of passage in people’s lives to honor our relationships with ourselves, each other, and the earth. We will continue to host workshops to share our knowledge and experiences in healing with obsidian and tantra. We will complete a stress management program for addiction recovery to be shared across the state to liberate people from the cycles of abuse and poverty.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Celebrate Myself is our child. It needs nurturing in a culture whom insists you are not okay for dreaming, for expressing wild parts of yourself, for indulging in what makes you happy. It expects you to work hard, sacrifice, conform, and to feel shame and guilt for always falling short. We want you to join our revolution in self-love.
